Polydioxanone (PDO) is a synthetic, slowly absorbable suture material frequently used in soft tissue approximation. As a monofilament, it may harbor fewer bacteria than braided sutures. Its prolonged tensile support profile is necessary in tissues that heal more slowly, such as fascia. In abdominal wall closure, PDO sutures are often used with continuous techniques and guideline-supported principles (e.g., small-bites, and a suture length to wound length ratio of at least 4:1) to support durable healing and reduce complications.
